The article considers the influence of external auditory cognitive load on the
perception of visual information in the interface. The relevance of the topic is due
to the need to improve the reliability of human-machine interaction in critical
areas such as aviation. In an experiment involving 74 undergraduates using
i-tracking, parameters of visual behavior were assessed during the performance
of a visual task with parallel listening to text. It was found that cognitive load
increased the time spent looking at elements when they were laterally arranged.
The use of icons in the interface reduced the impact of load compared to text.
The results emphasize the importance of interface structure for distraction
tolerance and demonstrate the potential of i-tracking as a tool for assessing
cognitive load.
